Database Design Development

The support and documentation provided by major database vendors like Oracle and IBM has helped to reduce manual effort for database management. Now, the demand for a good database design depends much on the capability of Database Architects.

Database development for relational database design consists of analyzing the requirements of the proposed system environment; identification of entities and relationships, and then creating an entity relationship (E-R) diagram in conformity with the system.

This is not a one-shot process; certain iterations come as part of verification and validation process, whereupon a database schema is created. Important database concepts like Normalization, Specialization, Generalization, and Aggregation have to be considered to model the database. Database performance depends on an efficient design and standard coding scheme.

Of course design is important, but database maintenance is equally importance. We first classify the category of users who are authorized to handle the database. The next step is to prepare a detailed list of users along with their roles and responsibilities to clearly identify the nature of tasks related to the database. For example, we can classify the users in four parts:
